My pledge class and I need a greek gift to give to the rest of the chapter. We need some more ideas, last year did a bar table.

Hi Greg, what we did in my day was make four folding card tables, finished in a high gloss varnish. Because of the grain in the 3ply after sanding, the varnish really lifted the grain. We lightly sanded in between coats of varnish, we did five coats of varnish and three coats of clear.

Hope that gives you an idea.

How can I build a wall-mounted kitchen bar table that folds down?

Okay, so I would like to make use of space in my small kitchen based on what I’ve seen in boats and RVs. I’m thinking something similar to a fold-out wall-mounted ironing board, but large enough to use as a spare counter space or breakfast bar. Ideally it should be white with chrome edging. What kind of hinges would I need? Will I need a leg? Where can I find plans for this type of project? How do I make sure it won’t pull off the wall when loaded with plates and elbows after breakfast?

I’d probably give the 10 to traveler, but answer number 2 has a point also.

The piano hinge will still only be best attached at the studs,,, likely 16 inch centers with a lot of extra holes. You could however attach a "Cleat" to the studs, level it, and then whatever length the "bar" is, attach it, with the Piano hinge, to the Cleat.

It would be wise to add, with regular hinges, perhaps strap type, a leg or two for the issue of weight/stress.

If aesthetics aren’t strictly an issue you can mount the "Shelf" so that it folds down; especially if you wanted to put Mica on it, or paint,,,OR Up, seeing the underside of it when folded. All that involves is placement of the piano hinge.

What is the clear, hardened substance on table tops and bar tops?

Ever seen a bar or table with bottlecaps or something else sealed in with some kind of clear liquid that hardened? It looks like a glass top but it’s not. What is that liquid and where can I buy it?

I did a counter top with a two-part epoxy from Home Depot. It was inexpensive (about $40 for two sets), easy to do, and the finished counter turned out great!
It comes in two bottles, sold together, and you just mix the contents together and pour!

Before we did the pouring, we framed off the sides of the counter with paint stirring sticks in order to contain the expoy and keep it from running over the side. We used old, burnt maps and (fake) gold coins to decorate ours, but the mixture can be poured as thick as you like to cover bottlecaps, as you said, or anything else you might like. The objects don’t have to be glued down first, as long as you pour carefully, they won’t go anywhere.

Another good thing about this product is that it is self-leveling, just pour it out smoothly and slowly and it will spread itself out. If you see any bubbles, you can use a heat light or a hair blow-dryer to bring them to the surface, but be careful not to get the heat too close to the serface, especially as it begins to set up.

Also, after the resin is dry, be prepared to either cover the edge(we used a length of rope to fit our nautical theme), or to file it down, as it will be kind of sharp and uncomfortable if it is a place where you would want to lean or rest your arms & elbows on.

Another thing you might want to pay attention to is the weather. If you live in an area where it is wet and humid, the epoxy is going to need extra time to dry. Again, you could use a blow dryer (at a safe distance) to speed this process up.

okay i already know how to make a scroll bar table using HTML and i want to put a myspace layout code inside of it, but it doesn’t get it. I know it is possible to do it ,but how do you do it.

Just replace all things that look like this: < with this: [AMPERSAND]lt; and everything that looks like this: > with this: [AMPERSAND]gt;

ampersand is this: &
sorry i can’t write it, or it goes through the system twice and gets replaced. just replace [AMPERSAND] with & and you have the escape codes.
AND DON’T FORGET THE SEMICOLONS i put them there for a reason

Enhanced Bar (Table) Experience

Concept presentation of the project I have been working on for a while for the University of Delft, faculty of Industrial Design, Netherlands. It is finished and settled behind me now. Sometimes new things will be added but for now there’s no time for it anymore.

Concept presents the use of multi-touch interactive surfaces in a bar environment. Customers and personnel can interact with the surface. Video shows a working prototype.

Tokens mentioned in the video were not used during the first two parts. The final part(billing) had the tokens working in the shape of coasters. Individual markers (reactivision system) were used to guide the fireflies. Shapeshifting of the flies wasn’t implemented in the prototype program (yet).

All programming was done in vvvv.

Is there any type of process where I can laminate pictures on top of a bar/table and not destroy photographs?

I have heard that there is a liquid laminate that could be poured on top of keepsakes to be adhered to table/bar tops allowing you to see the items through a clear finish and not damage the contents underneath.

Yes I’ve seen this liquid laminate. You can buy it at Michaels. Its like a two part epoxy solution that gives a very lustrous finish. I’ve seen people take this mixture and pour it over wooden surfaces and it looks so professional. the smell is very strong, so you’d have to have ventilation.
