How do I become a furniture designer?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I graduated in 2006 with a BFA in Photography, but I want to go into furniture design. I’m having trouble finding schools that offer this, or even deciding if I should go back to school. How do I find a school? How do I get an internship? Or just a job? How can I contact current designers? Are there any resources out there?

Please search on search engines and check it…Join furniture designer forums..from their you will get lot of help ..Good luck

Designer Furniture Auctioneers – Best Buys with Alan Mendelson

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Designer Furniture Auctioneers at 1830 South La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles is a liquidation outlet for high end furniture from some of the biggest and best known department stores in New York and along the east coast. And now, Designer Furniture Auctioneers is having an emergency liquidation sale with even bigger discounts than it usually offers. The emergency liquidation sale was caused by excess inventory and the closing of many department stores around the country, as well as the closing of some specialty furniture stores. DFA’s low prices have been dropped an extra 20% on furniture and prices on hand made and hand knotted one-of-a-kind rugs have been cut an additional 40%. This means overall savings of up to 80% off original department store prices. And you are getting these great discounts on new, first quality merchandise that comes direct in factory boxes — these are not floor samples.

DFA is also selling mattresses from the big department stores with the same kind of giant discounts. And there are lifetime warranties on everything sold in the store — including the high end 100% Italian leather sofas, chairs, ottomans and love seats and sectionals.

And here is something new– Designer Furniture Auctioneers is also taking trade-ins to help close the deal, and for the first time it is taking quality furniture for consignment sales. If you have been hit by the recession and need to sell your furniture, talk to DFA about selling it on consignment. Now at DFA you’ll see exquisite designer furniture that some families had to sell because they downsized — and moved from large homes into small homes.

Call Designer Furniture Auctioneers at (310) 841-0121 for information about the emergency liquidation sale, as well as information about trade-ins and selling your quality furniture on consignment at their giant warehouse and showroom near Beverly Hills.

For a novel I’m writing, I’m looking for a brand of very expensive designer furniture.?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Ideally, it would be a designer brand name that people would recognize. The Porsche of couches?

Henredon, Stickley or Baker for traditional

For over the top artistic quality – http://www.thosmoser.com/?campaign=1&gclid=CJnnzrfsxpECFSi7iQodH30lzQ

High design, items that are often used to indicate good design – - consider the Barcellona chair and the classic Nougachi coffee table.

I would suggest that you check the websites of the furniture company you name – to see if the image works for you.

Consider describing the style and materials, rather than the maker. Fabrics like silk, damask and leather, woods such as mahogany or zebra and styles like Queen Ann, Georgeian, Federal, and Modern create images as well.

P.S. Ethan Allen is solidly middle class. Chippendale is not a brand, but a style.

where can i find designer furniture at affordable prices?

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

looking at chairs for living room and a R&R couch
i’m located in singapore so local shops please. thanks all.

Chianelli Designs has many different designer furniture brands. They don’t put their prices online though. They are a discount designer furniture retailer. I’ve had great experiences with them! (Their Swaim sofas are my favorite!)

What college major would be required to be a furniture designer?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Im a college student looking for something i think would be fun to study, i have a great interest in arts but that might not always pay the bills so i’ve played with the idea of architecture. i came across some very interesting furniture designs online and wondered if its something i’d like to do. i would appreciate any information on this topic. thanks!

Maybe Interior Design? But you’d have to check out different schools and see what they offer in regards to classes. Not every school is the same … also you could do a tech vocational school thing – like go to school to be a carpenter or something.

Maybe you can contact the people below and see if they can answer your questions.

Anyone reverse-engineered designer furniture by having it made in China etc. & imported back home?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Some things look so simple but they’re expensive because they’re made by a famous designer. I think the right people in China could cheaply make a good replica with quality material, saving lots if it’s all shipped home in the one container. Anyone have experience in this field?

Making cheap replica’s is what China does.

This is one of the reasons that good American manufacturing jobs have moved overseas. Spurred on by US government deregulation of the last 30 years, and the tax avoidance of capitalists.

Replica’s, unless it is by the designer, can become patent infringement, and subject to Patent law enforcement.

How do you say "furniture designer" in French?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

For my sister’s French speaking exam, she has to talk about her parent’s professions. My father is a furniture designer. I don’t know how to say that in French.
How do you say "furniture designer" in French?
Many thanks.
