Yes, i think you can make it.Since your doing it for yourself just find a design you like and copy it.You can google modern furniture, find the piece you like,they usually give the size of each piece,use that to make what you want.

yes, cut them if you can. and if you cant get them all even get the adjustable leg caps from a hardware store that you can srew in or out to make tiny adjustments. if the stools cant be cut then i guess you could build a little platform for the table to sit on

It depends upon your skill, your desire to learn, what tools you have (or will get), and your standards of "good"

I have seen some dreadful things that people are proud of and people who are not satisfied, no matter what you do.

It will be easier to raise the base on the table than cut off the bar stools. Sometimes common sense escapes all of us...tooshay!

Get a sharp hand saw. Put a layer of masking tape around each leg approximately where you want to cut. With ruler or tape measure, mark each leg 3 or 4 sides the intended cut height. Connect the marks making a circle around the leg.
Repeat for all legs. Repeat for all stools. Cut should be parallel to floor, not a perfect circle. Take stools outside. Cut one stool. Bring first stool inside and check. Small height difference can be adjusted with course sandpaper.
Or add wood to table to increase height.

I'm having the same worry, but made worse by seeing all this brown and beige around that I was forced to live with in the late 70s/80s way after it had gone out of fashion. I didn't have the money to replace everything so chintz simply passed me by. Finally we got rid of it and NOW it's back in fashion. Nice while in fashion, but really difficult to live with when it isn't. I suggest creams and neutrals for your expensive bits, i.e. sofas and accerorize with really trendy cushions and stuff which can be replaced relatively cheaply. I wish you and me both some luck with that!

You are right, mid-century modern is very trendy right now. Mostly fueled by the designers on HGTV in conjunction with the furniture manufacturers because it is inexpensive to make, uses few endangered species of wood and is easy to maintain for the user. That being said, there is also a trend back to the Louis XIV because of the historical movies. You are seeing it mostly in bedding, draperies, linens and bedrooms. There is also a backlash to the clean straight lines of mid-century modern with Tuscan, British Colonial and French country. Pick up Architectural Digest, Elle Decor and some of the other interior design mags and you can see the trends. You can also visit model homes in your area to see what local trends are. Mid-century modern will date decor just like it did when it was originally introduced, mainly because it isn’t really comfortable for today’s lifestyles, but it definitely is a hot seller right now, especially in CA.

Gosh that is a hard one. You say the stools are too tall for the table….hmmmm I guess what I would do is cut a hole in the floor so you can lower their height.

Or maybe you could hang the table from the ceiling to make it taller.

There might be something more obvious that you could do, but I just can’t think of what it could be.

Making modern furniture covers a lot of ground. The most important thing to remember about the design and manufacture of modern furniture is it all about the geometry . . . . . Both in appearance and construction. Whether you can make it can only be know by you. Some people think it is easy than making a styles like Victorian or Georgian, because its so much simpler in appearance, but just the opposite is true. All you have to work with, are the lines of design and the joinery as embellishment, if something isn't appropriate or correct, there are no curly-ques to cover for it. It just wood, joints and you . . .. Good Luck.
